BCSC BELL

February 13th 2022

We were once again back with our friends at Fair State to bring you our latest drive-thru riff: T*co Bell!

Our team braved the cold to whip up cheesy gordita crunch packages with (nearly 500) house-made heirloom corn and sourdough tortillas. We even developed a signature “Fire-ablo” sauce just to pair with this meal. Annnnnd you cannot forget about cinnamon twists and the “Baja Splash” hard seltzer that the Fair State crew put together. Thanks so ,mich for coming out!

BCSC x Marty’s Deli

September 24th and 25th, 2021

We had such a good time with Marty’s Deli! Martha hosted us and we created a special sandwich for her pop-ups. Lucky folks got to enjoy our “Marble Rye” sandwich: fresh house sourdough rye focaccia, house pastrami, local baby swiss, scratch sauerkraut, house russian dressing and a big ole smear of grainy mustard. It was delicious! Folks picked up sandwiches at Headflyer Coffee and Fair State Brewing Coop. Rumor has it we even had ice cream…

BCSC & the City

August 29th, 2021

We had so much fun at BCSC & the City! Members came dressed as their favorite characters, partook in a SATC quiz made by Nicole (it was v difficult), devoured five courses inspired by the cosmo and the four leading ladies, and drank beers expertly paired by Arbeiter Brewing. It was a beautiful evening full of scallion cream cheese wontons, coconut shrimp, and grilled sweet corn ice cream with fresh blackberry rye sauce and cornbread crumble! All Photos by Lauren Cutshall.

GRRRL Scout Pop-up

June 26th and 27th, 2021

We threw down some hot cheeto fried chicken sandwiches all weekend at Grrrl Scout’s pride bloc party! It was so fun to fuel your dancing and to give you a good base for all of your beverages! We brined our local chicken in buttermilk and hot sauce and three step breaded it in tons of hot cheetos and our famous GF fried chicken mix. We topped them with candied sweet peppers, mayo, and crisp pickles. YUM! Honestly can’t wait to make these again!

Pride BBQ

June 24th, 2021

You joined us for our tradition of having a family meal before pride weekend! We invited folks to come connect at Modist brewing over a big plate of bourbon smoked pulled pork, herby potato salad, beautiful summer veggies. We made two type of BBQ sauce (a peach mustard and a more traditional thick and smoky one) and pickled some onions to top the pork with! Two amazing DJ’s played the best tunes. DJ Ari Atari spun some amazing throwback 90’s jams while DJ Beefcakes brought the 90’s country hits. Modist beer flowed and it was definitely a time for community connection!

BCSC Reunion

May 23rd 2021

We had the best time at Fair State Brewing Cooperative for our first in-person event since the pandemic hit! Folks re-connected over a meal inspired by family reunions of Julian’s youth in central WI. Courses ranged from Chips and Dip to rum and pineapple house smoked ham to strawberry cheesecake “fruit pizza” ice cream. The beer garden was a great space to soak up the beautiful weather and gather with community at long last!

Drive-Thru: Culver’s

January 23rd, 2021

Sticking with the pandemic Drive-Thru theme clubs we offered our famous frozen custard and smashburgers for our second round of car-based service! Folks snatched up spots for packages including Thousand Hills beef burgers with our “secret sauce”, housemade “A-beer-ican” cheese made with Arbeiter Brewing beer, onions caramelized in even more beer and shredduce of course. The burgers came with scratch made fries from local potatoes, ice cold root beer, and a scary identical version of creamy vanilla custard. We even cranked out some beer battered curds and Marisol Herling was our guest veggie expert, crafting a veggie burger that garnished rave reviews. And yes, of course another playlist!

Drive-Thru: Fried Chicken

November 21st, 2020

Covid has got us all craving community and we tried our hand at providing that at a distance! Our first Drive-Thru featured our original recipe potato chip fried chicken complete with sides of sour cream mashed potatoes, velvety gravy, fresh slaw, thousand layer biscuits, and “not too sweet” iced tea. It also came with a killer playlist to immerse yourself in as you ate! Check it out here. We love y’all, stay safe! We’ll be back soon with burgers and fries!

BCSC Brunch

March 7th, 2020

BCSC served up a COMPLETE breakfast for our 15th club! Lucky diners joined us for FIVE savory and sweet brunch courses that were inspired by trips to McDonald's before strawberry picking with family, Stevens Point Wisconsin's ultra chic Shoney's brunch buffet, the ongoing Pop-tart v. Toaster Strudel debate and more! We also peppered the table with our favorite nostalgic breakfast cereals and provided cocoa pebble cream for coffee service. As Leslie Knope says, “Why would anybody ever eat anything besides breakfast food?”

Queer Soup Night 2

November 10th, 2019

Y’all!!! We had such a good time at the second QSN at Modist Brewing Company! This time it was actually soup weather!

Folks enjoyed three fantastic soups from three fantastic queer chefs: Annette Colón of Red Hen Gastrolab/ The Lynhall / The Break Room, Franny Bannen of Wedge and Linden Hills Co-op/ Blue Collar Supper Club/ The Pizza Farm (A to Z Produce – Stockholm, WI)), and Steph Hedrick of The Woman's Club of Minneapolis. DJ Beefcakes was BACK spinning all the right tunes to slurp soup to, and Nicole Mayefske of Big Mouth Tarot was in house slinging complementary 3-card readings from 5:30-6:30. All proceeds from this event went to Sisters' Camelot: a collectively run 501c3 non-profit organization working to promote sustainability, strengthen community, and raise awareness about food justice. Thanks to Joshua Garvey for our rad posters and graphics for this event!

BCSC & A MOVIE II: SCREAM

October 19, 2019

Watch your Jiffy Pop and hopefully your boyfriend Steve is on his way because BCSC is back! 🍿

For BCSC XVI we returned with the beloved BCSC & a Movie and one of the greatest horror flicks ever made: SCREAM. Our diners brought blankets, stayed warm with a fire, and enjoyed an outdoor viewing of the 90’s classic on our big screen!

The six courses and cocktails we served were inspired by our favorite characters and scenes like our “Jiffy Tots” - homemade tots coated in cornmeal served alongside house smoked and fermented ketchup, and the “Sloppy Billy” - a wild venison sloppy joe and house potato chips. We even collaborated with Bakery Box for dessert! They were in house frying up fresh hot doughnuts that paired perfectly with our coffee ice cream! It was a terrifyingly good time!

BCSC at Chef Camp II

August 31st, 2019

At Chef Camp this year some lucky campers attended two magical seatings of a “nip” sized version of BCSC. We set up our table in the middle of the woods at Camp Miller and served three late night courses inspired by bars that I’ve loved before and shared some stories of shenanigans there! Diners were treated to a bloody mary inspired salad, fire roasted rum & coke pork tenderloin, and a peanut butter chocolate stout cake with peanut butter ice cream. It was a magical night!

BCSC and QSN!

July 21st, 2019

Queer Soup Night is a Brooklyn-born queer party with soup at its center and a commitment to resistance. Each party highlights queer chefs, raises money for a local community organization, and fosters authentic queer community. We are the organizers for QSN: MPLS and the first QSN was definitely a success! Folks enjoyed pop-up drag/burlesque performances from Del The Funky Homosexual and Emerald Eve, some killer tunes from DJ Beefcakes, while enjoying fantastic soups from Chef Tré Donte' Hardy, Chef Nico SanFilippo, and ourselves! All proceeds went to Transforming Families MN - which creates a better world for trans youth and their families. We got a glowing review in the City Pages! Check out what you missed here and keep an eye out for more Queer Soup Nights!

TACOS II: HARDSHELL

June 29th, 2019

Our diners. Surrounded by new and old BCSC friends. 5 cocktails to choose from at the bar. A summer breeze. Perfect mood lighting. A refreshing bite to start. Homemade and fried hard shell masa taco shells stuffed with grass-fed ground beef complete with delicious sides. Laughter abound. All with an ice cream dessert to cap off the night!

BCSC XIII: SOURCE

March 16th, 2019

Our diners were waiting for this, we have seen it!!!🔮

BCSC XIII was a collaboration dinner about all things spiritual and mystical. Big Mouth Tarot pulled one card readings that were hand-written for each diner. Dinner itself was kicked off by a group astrology reading with Christina Igoe of I Am Astrology. The meal consisted of six delicious courses including a cheese course from our resident cheese expert and voice of reason Franny Bannen. Courses included hand formed veggie dumplings, grilled broccolini with cured egg yolk, smoky shrimp and grits and more paired with stories ranging from speaking in tongues at jesus camp to a tear filled meditation in Los Angeles.

BCSC XII: Franchise

December 7th, 2018

"I'm loving it!" "Man, when I'm here, I'm family!" "BCSC really thinks outside the bun!"

These are all things you may have overheard at BCSC XII…

Diners at BCSC XI: FRANCHISE enjoyed 5 courses and cocktails based on my adolescent (and adult) experiences with chains. Stories and franchises included: a 5th grade April Fool's day prank war fail (Pizza Hut), a story we told only after diners ate the course it was about (McDonald's), and the time I found out long island ice teas were not in fact iced tea (Applebee's). We also went all out and had those classic glass plates for our salad course…

CHEF CAMP

September 2018

Chef Camp is an outdoor cooking adventure! Campers take hands-on classes with the region’s top chefs, eat gourmet meals under the stars and enjoy classic summer camp fun. We taught a class over a beautiful labor day weekend this past September. Leah taught a class (complete with samples) about building flavor and being confident in stepping away from recipes and cooking creatively. Topics included ingredient selection, science of heat and smoke, and balancing flavor. A special dish for chef camp was created to illustrate the principles: rum barrel smoked chicken with a grilled pineapple and ground cherry coconut sauce, spicy peanuts, and lime zest. Photos courtesy of Chef Camp.

THE BREAK ROOM

April 2018

We had a fantastic time telling the story of BCSC at The Break Room -  a weekly pop up cocktail lounge featuring small plates from resident and guest chefs with a new menu every Monday. It was a blast to cook in a new space and tell the story of BCSC's food roots including plates inspired by taking Leah's Mom lunch at Len Dudas Motors as a child and their Aunt Laurie's pineapple pretzel salad. Take a peek at some of the fun we had!

BCSC XI & A Movie

March 2nd, 2018

Romy and Michele’s high school reunion was the first R rated movie I watched. I was in 6th grade. I counted how many times they said the “F” word (it was 12)! Diners got to rematch the film with 5 courses inspired by the movie. We had a nod to Heather Mooney with our “smoked” and fried mushrooms with lemon miso dip, a scratch made cool ranch Dorito and couldn’t help but make a “business woman special”. What a fun night!

BCSC X: The Freezer Aisle

January 19, 2018

No ice was used in the making of this club (it was cold enough outside)! Diners were warmed up by dishes inspired by our favorite times in the cold! I was a part of ski club growing up and kids would make “tomato soup” from ketchup packets, salt, pepper, and hot water. Our first bite was a nod to that tomato soup, but we made it better. Dessert was delectable dark chocolate fondue with lots of homemade goodies to dip - a step up from the Kid Cuisine brownies that baked alongside your frozen mac and cheese.

BCSC IX: Be Nice Or Leave!

September 22, 2017

NOLA inspired this 5 course meal (and the humidity mimicked the city itself). Oysters we not missing from this seafood heavy menu from our favorite city to visit. A rose chicken salad which was created in honor to a rose soaked afternoon at the Country Club Pool. A Po Boy bite paid homage to a historic bike tour. We shared the trick to eating crawfish with plenty of practice from our boil, and ended the meal as one might with beignets and chocolate chicory sauce.

BCSC LITE: BBQ, BABY!

July 2017

For BCSC Lites shoes were optional!

Our diners experienced:
1. Absolutely delightful conversation
2. Unlimited High Life
3. A small snack to start (I can't resist)
4. A gorgeous pulled pork sandwich + 2 sides
5. A refreshing bourbon cocktail
6. Mood lighting
7. Housemade ice cream to top it off

BCSC LITE: TACOS

June 2017

BCSC Lites are our party in the back to the supper club in the front.

Our diners experienced:
1. Absolutely delightful conversation
2. Unlimited High Life
3. A small snack to start (I can't resist)
4. 2 tacos and sides
5. A tequila cocktail
6. New friendships being formed
7. A cute dog to pet

BCSC VIII: Na Zdrowie/Prost/Cheers/Skål

April 2017

BCSC VIII was a celebration of ancestry and culture. Come enjoy a five course meal inspired by my family history (and my recently gathered DNA results). Obvious spoiler alert: I'm 100% European, but there were some minor surprises in there! Guests are encouraged to come share stories and traditions from the places their ancestors and family came from!

NA ZDROWIE!!!

BCSC VII: Baby, Let Me Woo You

February 2017

Romance. Whether you roll your eyes at the term or swoon for it, we all have a way to be won!
Growing up we all were told what romance was supposed to mean: red roses, Prince Charming, and "You've Got Mail". But, as I grew up I've found it means something different to everyone. 5 years ago I created a 5-course meal to woo my partner, and diners allowed me to woo them over a 5-course meal as well.

BCSC VI: There's No Place Like BCSC!

December 2016

Home: it's where the heart is, it's wherever you lay your head, it's sweet, it's not, it's so many things.

Diners joined us for BCSC VI in a brand new space. The move got us thinking about what makes a house (or apartment, or trailer, or tent) a home. We featured four courses all inspired by the different homes we've had and the places, people, and groups that have cultivated that warm and fuzzy feeling of being understood and cared for.

BCSC V: Dinner at Rockhopper Farm

July 2016

This time around we traveled to celebrate our farming roots, local agriculture, and the bountiful produce of summer. Farming is hard work, but so is sharing your living space with a guy who has a pee pot, surviving chicken feedings, and muddling through a moonshine hangover (all of which helped inspire this legendary club).
Diners joined us for a happy hour and Rockhopper Farm tour complete with an original cocktail and hors d'oeuvre. Then partook in a meal at our beautiful outdoor table with vegetables sourced from Rockhopper and other local purveyors.

BCSC IV: Let's Get Fresh

April 2016

Let's be real, even though it was a mild winter, it didn't make it feel any shorter. This time around we broke away from the comfort foods of Winter and got in touch with the fresh flavors of Spring. Most of this dinner was be inspired by both Japanese cuisine and food that's just as good for your body as it is for your taste buds. Diners got fresh with us, heard stories, and ate food inspired by my history in nutritional science and agriculture.

BCSC III: I'd Rather be in Love.

February 2016

I love love. I always have. Thus, I've always loved Valentine's Day. Before you write off this club, let me explain.

Valentine's Day is a time to celebrate ALL SORTS of love. Like the crushes I had in high school. Or how I used to sleep with my softball glove every night. The love you have for your best friend, your sister, and your dad (and romantic love too). That's why this club was relevant to EVERY SINGLE ONE OF OUR DINERS. Thus, in order attend this BCSC our diners had to come in 2's (or 3's) with someone they love.

BCSC II: Family Ties, Holiday Style.

December 2015

It's was that time of the year again.... time for the holidays and another BCSC!
You can't choose your blood relation, and around the holidays the best and the worst of family are often brought out. We've all been there; awkward crowded homes, outspoken drunk uncles, and unwanted hugs. This four course supper club is inspired by just that.

BLUE BCSC I: HORROR

October 2015

Blue Collar Supper Club is a monthly underground dinner service. Each meal is inspired by a central theme and each course (and cocktail) is presented with a story to accompany it. Story telling by inspired guests is welcome and encouraged! Seats are limited to 10-15 per event.

This inaugural club's theme was horror. Diners enjoyed a meal inspired by stories that were embarrassing, unnerving, and downright terrifying. Halloween was felt at this club!
